If you have used headers and footers you know they are good for displaying information at the top and bottom of the page consistently throughout your document. But what if you want the first page to be different, you may want it to display different information to all other pages which might include making it blank, like on a title page or vice versa.

Same can apply to odd and even pages, you might want title on odd pages and chapter on even pages. Publications often have different information on the odd and even pages. You can do this too.
